Candid, the term itself means frank, open and honest. Candid photography is all about capturing photographs in their most natural setting, without asking the bride, groom or the guests to pose for the shot.

For obvious reasons, candid photography does not require the bride, groom or the guests to dress up elaborately or apply cosmetics. The shots are mostly done in natural lighting as far as possible. Most of the time the bride, groom or the guests, are not even aware that they are being clicked. However, one should not confuse this with voyeurism, where the bride, groom or the guests is being shot with no regards to privacy. It is more about capturing the day to day events as they truly are.

While creating wedding albums, it might be a good idea to include both candid as well as formal images, as that usually makes for a better storytelling than if either one of them would have been chosen. Candid photography needs practice and the photographer need to have an eye to differentiate between what is commonplace and which moments are special. The trick is to capture everything and maybe later, choose the shots that fit in perfectly within a storyboard and can bring out the entire sequence of events.
