What is Candid?
Candid, the term itself means frank, open and honest. Candid photography is all about capturing photographs in their most natural setting, without asking the bride, groom or the guests to pose for the shot.
It brings in a real sense of spontaneity and eliminates the possibility of the persons becoming too conscious. Candid photographs are mostly shot in motion, bringing in a real life feel. The images look far more realistic and contemporary
Indian wedding photography
Indian wedding photography is largely about capturing these natural shots, as it brings out the essence of the rituals and ambiance as they truly are, without always telling the bride, groom or the guests to pose.
For obvious reasons, candid photography does not require the bride, groom or the guests to dress up elaborately or apply cosmetics. The shots are mostly done in natural lighting as far as possible. Most of the time the bride, groom or the guests, are not even aware that they are being clicked. However, one should not confuse this with voyeurism, where the bride, groom or the guests is being shot with no regards to privacy. It is more about capturing the day to day events as they truly are.
Candid wedding albums
While creating wedding albums, it might be a good idea to include both candid as well as formal images, as that usually makes for a better storytelling than if either one of them would have been chosen. During weddings and other events, these photographs manage to capture the hullabaloo of the preparations in a very lively manner. Wedding photography can cost quite a lot, and it is expected the photographer will deliver more than the tried and tested photographs that everyone seems to be so used. Candid pictures speak a lot- this is what makes them extremely humorous at times, capturing the playful side of people, which comes spontaneously and which would never have happened had they been posing all along.
Photographer Tips
Candid photography needs practice and the photographer need to have an eye to differentiate between what is commonplace and which moments are special. The trick is to capture everything and maybe later, choose the shots that fit in perfectly within a storyboard and can bring out the entire sequence of events.
