Wedding photography is not about what it looks like, it about what it feels like! The utmost important person at the wedding is the bride. The Bride in her wedding dress, shy and tense, beautiful and alluring. She provides quite a conundrum for a wedding photographer. She is right there with all those mixed emotions that are priceless and expressed in her trousseau and trinkets and of course her eyes without a mention.
1. Start Early:
Generally the entire dressing process for the bride, that is the outfits to the face and hairdo, takes a comfortable two and a half hour spell. So it’s just always safe to ask your makeup artist to begin at least 3 hours prior to your schedule. For instance is your event if scheduled at 7.00 pm you have to begin your dressing process latest by 3.30 pm.
We are now getting into the part that actually adds meaning to the entire two and a half hour process that just went by. “PHOTOGRAPHY”!!! We have to complete your detailed shoot at this time before you even enter your wedding destination. This is because everything about you is just perfect not just the dressing but your emotions, your expression etc, are naïve and raw without the interruption of the guests. Once you step into the event hall you will only get time to do your individual shoot after the entire event is over and you are certainly going to be extremely tired.
To begin early just means candid and beautiful documentation of the moments for a lifetime.
2. Find a Room:
Ensure you have chosen that comfortable room to dress yourself and spend those few minutes before the big moment. One other very important aspect involved in choosing that room other than comfort is lighting. Make certain that the room has adequate natural or even ambient lighting. Otherwise the makeup artist could have a tough time deciding on the right shades. This also provides for great photos.
3. No Too Many People:
Too many people in the room not just means a distraction for the makeup artist but also for your entire frame of mind. And this can also cause a disruption in photography especially when taking reflective shots.
There are brides that wear a simple white bracelet that just expresses class and elegance, and others that wear elaborate gold chains, adorned with peacock and mango motifs, that were made nearly a century ago for their grandmother’s wedding to express the sentiments behind it or a preference of grandeur. The Wedding Trousseau and the accompanying trinkets say a lot about the personal choice of the bride and her traditions. It is important to capture them with respect, and certain sensitivity, as these hold meaning for a family more than superficial appreciation or adornment.
These items could simply be the Wedding Trousseau itself, which the bride, her sister, and friends would have spent weeks or sometimes even years agonizing and dreaming over and probably, spent many woman-hours putting together.
Ensure you have all your accessories handy so they all can be captured. Everything from your watch to footwear can go into this.
5. See a Trial:
Always, without a choice, ensure that you have had a trial of the face and hair do well in advance that is at least 15 days prior to the event. This is so that you don’t have to handle all this at time when you already have fishes swimming in your tummy. The trial make up session must have essentially finalised the shades of makeup and the details behind it and the final hairdo along with the required accessories. This just means everything will go perfect on the big day.
The challenge doing portraiture for a bride getting ready is that we are at the neck of the moment where everything around is in a hurry. We don’t want to interrupt another wedding professional when she is in her zone. We just want to respect her and together make the bride look her best and capture the process in a very subtle manner.
The Bridal getting ready session is the calm before the storm when the bride will look her best, and it is the least interrupted time the photographer has with the bride.
We wish you an extremely delightful bride getting ready time!!!
